Pupils at a Stevenage infant school have been learning about the conflict in Ukraine.
The children at Woolenwick Infant and Nursery School began to talk to educators about the situation in Ukraine, and teachers have been answering their questions through circle times, philosophy sessions, picture books and assemblies.
During the week, children have been making handprints in yellow and blue.
On Friday artist Caitlyn Bridgman made the outline of the map of Ukraine in masking tape on the hall floor, for each child to place their handprint as a symbol of helping hands for Ukraine and a time of reflection.
Earlier in the week, the children recorded their own version of John Lennon’s Give Peace a Chance which was played throughout the day while the hands were placed.
Children, families and teachers made donations, raising a total of £255.31.
Headteacher Usha Dhorajiwala said: “The crisis in Ukraine has touched us all. We have been humbled by the children’s response to the situation and their wish to help restore peace.
"It was their idea to raise money and also create an installation to focus our thoughts for the people affected.”
