Hitchin Town Twinning Association has donated £2,500 to the Ukraine humanitarian effort of the Humanitas charity.
HTTA's committee agreed that it must do something for Ukraine, and decided to donate a large proportion of its funds towards the Ukrainian refugee effort.
Once the war is over HTTA will look to establish a twinning link with a Ukrainian town of similar size to Hitchin.
Director of Hitchin-based Humanitas, Joanne Wearne, said “We are so grateful for this generous donation and look forward to working with HTTA in the future.
"Our team will continue to take medical and humanitarian aid into Ukraine for as long as we can, and donations like this will enable us to buy more supplies.”
The Hitchin Committee of the North Herts Council recently discussed forming a new link with a community in Ghana called Ayansuako. A number of local schools already have links there via Humanitas.
