Irish midfielder breaks his leg in comeback game following dislocated shoulder
DARREN Murphy could miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg in a reserve match this week.
The midfielder was injured making his comeback against Colchester United after dislocating his shoulder in the Carling Cup defeat against Portsmouth last month but will now be out for most, if not all, of the rest of the season after tests confirmed he had broken his leg.
Speaking about the injury on Friday, club physio Paul Dando said: “Murph was admitted to Lister last night to undergo surgery this morning. He has a left lower shaft fibula fracture and may need a screw if the ankle is unstable so it looks similar to Lawrie last season. It’s a big blow for him.”
Lawrie Wilson was out for eight months last season after breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle against Rushden & Diamonds in August 2009.
The Portsmouth match, in which Murphy scored, was the midfielder’s only start for Boro this season.
