Saxon Earley has broken some Stevenage hearts after signing on loan with Wycombe Wanderers.
Many Boro fans had become convinced that the former loanee was on his way back to the Lamex Stadium, where he spent the first half of last season.
That was cut short due to parent club Norwich City opting to sell him to Plymouth Argyle.
But after a change in manager and a long-term injury, the left-back has opted to move temporarily to the Chairboys.
A statement on the Wycombe website said: "Matt Bloomfield has beaten off competition from a host of EFL clubs to secure the loan signing of Saxon Earley on a loan deal from Plymouth Argyle for the rest of the season.
"The left-back, 21, started his career with Norwich City after developing through the Canaries’ academy, and spent the first half of last season with Stevenage before signing a permanent deal with Plymouth, featuring nine times for the eventual League One title winners.
"A team-mate of recent Chairboys recruit Matt Butcher, Saxon played twice for the Pilgrims at the start of the current campaign before picking up an injury, and now arrives at Adams Park to provide extra competition down the left.
"The deadline day deal remains subject to EFL and FA approval."
