A developer is seeking permission to build nine flats in Ripon Road in Stevenage.

A planning application has been submitted to Stevenage Borough Council for the erection of a three-storey side extension and addition of a third floor to an existing property, to facilitate the creation of four one-bedroom and five two-bedroom flats.

The proposed site, directly opposite The Leys Primary and Nursery School, is surrounded predominantly by two-storey properties.

The plans, which include retaining the four existing houses, also include 17 parking spaces, electric vehicle charging, and a store for 16 bikes.

"The proposal seeks to rejuvenate the Ripon Road area through its design, to protect and enhance the heritage value and add distinctive character.

"We believe that the proposed units have been adequately designed to provide a high standard of accommodation, and that the proposed scheme would make a positive contribution to the local area, in aesthetic terms as well as by providing additional quality housing stock."
